Irrigation Management

Although lentil is primarily grown as rainfed crop, however, it does respond to irrigation particularly during dry winters. The most critical growth stage for moisture stress in lentil is pod formation followed by flower initiation. Therefore, in case of scarce winter rains, one to two irrigations are required. The importance of irrigation is increased under delayed sowing due to poor root development. Irrigation at flowering stage should be avoided as it may lead to flower drop.
