Maharashtra, U.P. ,M.P. , Karnataka , A.P. and Gujarat are the pigeonpea producing States  of India.

Pigeonpea can be grown on all kinds of soil. However, well drained, loam and sandy loam soil with high fertility are appropriate for pigeonpea cultivation. Water stagnation in fields can adversely affect the pigeon pea crop.

UPAS- 120, Pusa 492, Manale, AL 201 and ICPL 151 are the short duration varieties of pigeonpea.

Early pigeon pea crop matures about 130-145 days.

IPA-203, Bahar , Malviya Pigeonpea -13, Narendra Pigeonpea -1 , Pura -9 and Aman are the long duration varieties of pigeonpea .

First fortnight of July is recommended for the  sowing of long duration pigeonpea varieties.

D.A. 11 (Sharad) and Pusa-9 varieties are suitable for Pre rabi sowing.

The doses of fertilizers should be determined based on results of the soil test. All the fertilizers are drilled in furrows at a depth of 5 cm and at the side of 5 cm from seed. Basal dose of 15-10 kg Nitrogen, 40-50 kg P2O5, 20 Kg K2O per ha is recommended at the time of sowing.

On the basis of roil testing all the fertilizers should be applied at the time of lost ploughing. It will be best to apply them 2cm deep below the surface of seed and 5cm besides seed.

Use of 2g thiram and 1 kg carbendazim or 3 kg thirum is recommended. After 2-3 days, seeds may be treated with rhizobium culture.

  • One packet (250 gm) rhizobium culture 10 kg Sufficient to cure the seed
  • 8-10 hours before sowing, 50 grams of jaggery or sugar should be diluted in half a liter of water.
  • Heat the solution and let it cool down and add a pack of rhizobium culture by running it properly.
  • 10 kg in bucket Seed should be added to the solution so that rhizobium culture can be sticking to the surface of the seed.
  • The treated seeds should be dry in the shade.
  • Do not dry treated seeds in the sun
  • After seed treatment with rhizobium do not clean the seeds with fungicide.

Row from row to row -

               Agayti Arhar                                 -           45-60 cm

Late ripening arhar                   -              60-70 cm

             Rabi - East Arhar                              -              30-40 cm

Distance of plant from plant -

              Agayti Arhar                                     -           10-15 cm

Long time turmeric                        -              15-20 cm

              Rabi - East Arhar                              -            8-10 cm

Due to heavy soil and over-rainfall area on sowing of Arhar, more yields are obtained.

Sowing on the meadow reduces the amount of water in irrigation by 25-30%.

The presence of weeds is harmful for initial growth of pigeonpea during the initial 60 days. Two mechanical weeding one at 20-25 days and another at 40-45 days after sowing are recommended.

Application of pre-emergence herbicide of pendimethylene (Stamp 30 EC) 0.3-4 liter in 600-800 liter of water per hectare is recommended.Weedicide must be sprayed before seed germination.

Long duration pigeonpea can be intercropped with jowar, maize , groundnut and urdbean between two rows.

  • In areas where the rainfall is high and the water gets accumulated, the sowing of the paddy is 45-60 cm. Doing on the distance made in the muds is quite beneficial.
  • Good growth of plants by good condiments / conduit is good for plants,
  • There is less outbreaks of phytophora disease
  • The desired number of plants is maintained.
  • In the summer season, hold the fields deep after irrigation. With bright sunlight and heat, the karmas and their eggs will be destroyed.
  • The use of grain crops in the crop cycle reduces the problem of cardiovascular disease.
  • Neem khali 500 k / ha The rate of seed or neem seed powder is 50 kg / ha. Hey By adding the rate of sowing to the soil at the time of sowing, there is a decrease in formaldehyde diseases.
  • The pod fly is found in the three stages (the egg, larva and pupa respectively) inside the pod. Therefore, in its variation, the systematic insecticide has proved to be more useful. Monocrotophas 36 EC, Dimethoate E.C. (each 1 kg / lit water or cleaner 25 EC 2 mill / water, three spraying of water, in the condition of economic damage level of pod fly, 5% of grains, As soon as the start is done, the second and third spraying can be done on the interval of ten days, the fly fly can be controlled.
  • If possible, before the spraying of the above mentioned chemicals, then at the rate of 5% (1 kg Nibauli seed powder / 20 liters of Niboli) or its commercial products such as Nimbsidine Neem Gold Neemajal, Neem Guard Nimmark Nemarich etc. 2-3 mm / Lee. After dissolving in water, use 600-700 liters of solution. Due to the spraying of 2-3 spraying crops at a span of ten days, the fruit attack can be prevented. Use the revised chemicals as per the requirements of the heavy rains / use conditions of the field.
  • The incidence of gram flavored insect can be predicted from the sexual chemistry attraction trap. The information obtained from this is the same for the entire village or region. One hey In the field, 3-4 netting should be applied. As soon as three to five male pants are coming in 3 to 4 days continuously in the net, and in order to save the crops, insect nasal chemicals should be prepared for spraying / spraying / spraying or other control method.
  •  Nabauli's (NSKE) chief is very effective in controlling gram pods and other insect groups. For this, take Nibauli very fine khoti in Kharal yaokhli and make a potty in fine cloth and soak in the evening in water. Remove the white milky juice in the morning by suppressing the bundle. Throw the remaining items. In this way, add one percent cheaper soap in the available solution and sprinkle 5 percent nibauli truth on the crop.
  • For the control of gram beans insect pests, N.P.V. (Nuclear Poly Hydrosis Virus) has been found to be quite effective. One hey Effective control is done by sprinkling 3 larva cotton pieces in the area. It should be sprayed in the morning or evening. Its use is very simple and like other insect chemicals. N.P.V. It is very special and the chana kills the bees of the fruitpotter. It is safe for other parasites, predators, beneficial insects and the environment.

Sowing of the high resistant species such as Narendra Arhar-1, Narendra Arhar-2, Amar and Malviya Arhar-6. Seed-shed and sown.

Solarize the soil. For this, plow the field in May-June and leave it. The bacteria that live in the soil from brighter sunlight will be destroyed and the chances of disease will be reduced.

Farmers cultivate intercrop with the tiger of the tiger.

Cultivation of SMD resistant varieties like Narendra Arhar 1, Malviya Arhar 13 and R.A.1 is recommended. In addition rouging and burning of infected plants is also recommended. Spray of Metasystox also helps in management of disease carriers of pest.

The moisture content in the pigeon pea seeds should not be more than 9-10 per cent at the time of storage. For safe storage of grains, use of aluminium phosphide tablets (12gm) in 100 m3 volume.

Seeds of advanced seed species of Arhar can be obtained from the following places
